The truth
of
today's Korean rice

現在の韓国米の真実

I translated an article ( original article are not found cache) about today's Korean rice.
I found this on a bbs with translated function(Japanese<->Korean).

Under Japanese rule,
many Japanese culture or words influenced on Korean Peninsula.
Previously, I was not going to write up(translate up?) such facts,
especially not if these facts make some people feel bad.

But after knowing kumdo problems, I changed my mind.
Some people somewhere broadcast their groundless delusions
to invade Japanese culture
through Wikipedia, by mass media, by governmental organizations,
and by other various organizations, including kumdo associations...
I often saw such cases,
which made me decide to write up to destroy their delusions.

Because I think we should oppose their delusions with facts.
Recently, I translated a few articles(1 2) based on this idea.

It is unknown when and from where rice cultivation came down to Japan.

Some people say rice cultivation came from China, some people say from Okinawa, and others say from Korean Peninsula.

But Korean people claim that they taught Japanese people rice cultivation without hard evidence.

Document: "Korean people taught rice cultivation Japan and contributed a great deal to Yayoi Culture.

Korean people always want to become a "colonial master" of Japanese culture by claiming that Japanese culture originated from Korea.

But it is no use claiming it.

Because there is a historic fact with more unimpeachable evidence than "origin" delusion of Korean people.

The fact is that Korean people are now eating Japanese rice, not Korean native rice.

This rice was improved through artificial breeding by Japanese under Japanese rule.

Before Japanese rule, Korean people were eating Korean native rice, which is contaminated by many red rice(ancient rice) and tiny stones.

Japanese people regard this as an anathema, saying this was not food for people.

Red rice(ancient race)

Under Japanese rule, Japanese landlords immigrated to Korean Peninsula, and began to cultivate Japanese rice with Japanese agricultural technology.

As Japanese rice production increased in Korean Peninsula, it became to have a better reputation,.and its export to Japan increased. Then, in Korean Peninsula, the production of Japanese rice increased furthermore,

As a result, Korean native rice dumped into the dustbin.

The first recommended Japanese rice variety in Korean Peninsula was called kameno-o which was the ancestry of the most famous brand rice in Japan now..

This rice variety is named "Koshihikru". This "kameno-o" was a cold-resistant variety which was developed by Abe Kameji in 1893.

(Sake made from Kameno-o)

This Sake is famous also as as a model for Manga named "Sake of Natsuko".

After that, "crossbreeding ", the new technique of breed improvement developed in Japan.

Crossbreeding kameno-o with other variety produced "rikuu132gou" in 1921.

Miyazawa Kenji worked to promote this variety. He was the famous poet.

Thus this delicious and disease-resistant rikuu132gou was spread all over the Korean Peninsula.

1920 39.2% (kameno-o)

1930 71.7% (kameno-o)

1940 96.7% (rikuu132gou)

From "Rice and grain inspection system of Governors-General of Korea(Chosen Soutokufu)"

Author; Iinuma Jiroh published by Miraisha 1993

Japanese rice became widespread.in Korean Peninsula. In addition, Japanese agricultural technology was imported. For example, irrigation technology, fertilizer and cultivation method(regular planting).

Then Korean people was cultivating Japanese rice by Japanese agricultural technology immediately after their independece.

After Korea was separated from Japan, Japan has developed a variety of rice more than (one was) before.

In 1949, Japan developed "koshihikari" which was 4th generation descendant of "kameno-o".

("koshihikari" is now most popular brand in Japan)

Document. "The ranking of Japanese name-brand varieties of rice"

http://www2.odn.ne.jp/shokuzai/brand_kome.htm

"Koshihikari" is so delicious that it is also popular in Korea. "Koshihikari" is allowed to cultive only in Gyeonggi-do.

In January 2006, the 85% of "koshihikari from Japan" was exposed as fake in Korea.

The rice Korean people eat now is not Korean native rice but Japanese rice which Japanese brought to Korean Peninsula, and cultivated by the agricultural technology of Japan.

In many parts of today's Korean people's lives, it is impossible to deny or ignore influence from what Korean people learned from Japanese under Japanese rule.
