A Lot Of Lies in "Kumdo"

"F.A.Q." Part

1.What associations did they establish? (2005/09/24)
There are over 200 associations in Korea. Each of them is closed, and have little contact with the others.
Korean Kumdo Association(KKA) calls the others imposters ( Only this belongs to Korean Sports Council ).
They should be divided by their claims about so-called "The history of Kumdo" and the process of their establishment.
Group "Silla or Baekje Kumdo" group "Haidong" Kumdo group
So-called
"The history of Kumdo"

(What are they saying?)
"Kumdo" originated from Baekje or the Hwarangs of Silla. "Kumdo" originated from the Samurang of Goguryo.
Costumes Hakama with a white line Costumes like Samue (talapoin's suits)
Examples KKA, US Hwarangkwan hdgd.org
Other than these groups, there is a "Taekwondo group" as a major one.
But then the trial in Korea proved the claims of "Haidong" Kumdo group are fabricated.
Can they still stay active?

( Note : "Sayonara Kumdo" wrote original text from the information at some point. Please understand that the "Kumdo" (a copy of Kendo) associations may change their claims now or in the future. Because their claims are groundless from the beginning.
For detail to here. )
2.What are they saying anything else?
Here is the several points of contention that the persons who insist the so-called "History of Kumdo" is not fabricated.
1 The claim of "kumdo" Hwarangs of Silla were warriors.
They are the cradle of Samurai in Japan.
1 Fact No evidence. No ground. Certainly, the people called "Hwarang" existed, but they were not warriors. Naturally, they are not the cradle of Samurai in Japan.
Hwarangs were members of educational institutions for teenagers as well as social clubs where members gathered to sing and dance, which had religious background.

The main sources of Hwarangs are Samguk Sagi and Samguk Yusa. Samguk Sagi is the oldest historical record in Korea, complied by a Goryeo Confucianists Kim Busik in 1146.

There are no record of military training or of Hwarang as warrior groups. All that associates Hwarang with military affairs is Hwarang Segi's explanation,
quoted by Samguk Sagi: "Henceforth able ministers and loyal subjects are chosen from them, and good generals and brave soldiers are born there from.
Ironically, this proves that they were neither generals nor soldiers when they belonged to Hwarang.

For detail, you can see here(posted 04-12-03 11:20 or later). This is cache of an game site.

2 The claim of "kumdo" The art of using sword came from Baekje to Japan.

2 Fact Lively exchange existed between Japan and Baekje. The prince of Baekje was the hostage in Japan. After the ruin of Baekje, the king of Baekje exiled to Japan and was appointed local lord by Emperor ( 7th century ).

The sword of iron came from Baekje, but this is impractical as a weapon, and have no characteristics as Japanese sword (The two swords differed in the way of using ). Before then the sword suppose to be used for ceremony.

The "sword" from Baekje have this shape.
What technique did they need to use this as a weapon???
Perhaps, it is not the same technique as a Japanese sword..

Many records exist about exchange between Japan and Baekje, but there is no record that the art of sword came from Baekje to Japan.

Note1: About "kumdo (a copy of Kendo)" groups
( Warning : "Sayonara Kumdo" wrote this information. )

The "Kumdo" associations are divided into three main groups. There are over 200 associations in Korea. Each of them is closed, and have little contact with the others.
Korean Kumdo association call the others imposters ( Only this belongs to Korean Sports Council ).

They should be divided by their claims about so-called "the history of kumdo" and the process of their establishment.
I translated his text, but skipped or change expressions a few point because I could not confirm something by myself.

"Silla or Baekje" kumdo group
The groups operate mainly in USA.
For example, KKA (Korea Kumdo Association), WKA (World Kum Do Association), and US Hwarangkwan.

They are saying there is no difference between their "Kumdo" and Kendo by themselves. They claims Kendo originated from Baekje or the "Hwarangs" of Silla.

The difference is that they do not do "Sonkyo", put Hakama with a white line, and have test the operation(kata) of "Bon Gook Gum Bup" in promotion examination.

They say that "Kumdo" originated from Baekje or the Hwarangs of Silla.
Only KKA belongs to Korean Sports Council. This means KKA is sort of officially-recognized association. Some people say KKA wants to take the initiative in IKF (International Kendo Federation).
"Haidong" kumdo group
This group and "Silla or Baekje" group are as well mated as a cat and a dog. They established some organizations, too. They say that "kumdo" originated from the Samurang of Goguryo. They emphasize the operation of a wooden or real sword instead of a bamboo sword.

They demonstrate across the United States with the support of Hyundai Zaibatsu. They are in the costumes like Samue (talapoins' suits). Many of them use "gumdo" instead of "kumdo".
They become popular because it is very easy to promote.
Some dojos of taekwondo or "hapkido" have a "Haidong Gumdo" class on the side.

I heard the come-outers from KKA established the association. The trial in Korea proved their "history" is a fabricated one.
Taekwondo group
After many small and weak "kumdo" associations collected and distributed many times, they were united centering around the persons relevant to taekwondo.
WKF(World Kumdo Federation) was derived from here. KKF(Korean Kumdo Federation), belonging to WKF, is too small in size to threaten KKA belonging to Korean Sports Council.
But we had better watch them because they are supported by the relative persons to taekwondo, who are good at political activities.

Their "convention" for foundation was held, which was hardly reported in a local paper. The convention seemed to be a little meeting joined by about 100 Koreans and their families who were doing "Kumdo" in various countries. One of their associations was founded by the persons ousted from KKA, and such a background seems to cause an emotional confrontation.
